How many scholarships are there?

The scholarships are offered to students for the 2023/2024 school year. Essex District High School will receive three scholarships in the amount of $1000.

Who is eligible for these scholarships?

  • Students that demonstrate active volunteerism within the community of Essex County.

  • Students that demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of volunteerism within the community and society at large.

  • Students who plan to continue with a post-secondary program of study in the fall.

  • Preference will be given to those students who will be studying within the Windsor-Essex geographical area.

What must the application include?

Each application must include the following material completed through our online application:

  • An application essay that describes why you feel you are most eligible for this scholarship as well as your thoughts on the following topic: What is the importance of volunteerism within the community setting? What is the benefit for the community? What is the benefit for the volunteer?

  • 2 professional references from a volunteer organization must submit a reference letter, outlining why they believe the applicant should receive this scholarship.

When and where are the applications due?

The completed application must be submitted online by April 29th, 2024 at 4:30 pm.

You will be notified if your application has been successfully submitted within 3 business days of submission. If you have not received an email from the church within 3 days, please contact us. Remember that you must have both steps completed for successful submission.

How the scholarship will be graded:

The selection committee will consider the following in their decision making:

  • 15% will be based on the number of hours of volunteer time completed.

  • 25% will be based on the reference letters received.

  • 35% will be based on the quality of the application letter and the clarity of the thoughts.

  • 25% will be based on the location of study in the following order of priority: Essex County, province of Ontario, country of Canada, international.

When will you find out who receives the scholarships?

Essex Gospel Community Church will notify Essex District High School of the scholarship winners prior to the graduation ceremony. The scholarship will be presented at the graduation ceremony.

When will the scholarship monies be received?

The scholarship monies will be paid directly to the school board. The School Board will connect with you in regards to the finances.
